RECONDITE LIVE (berlin – dystopian, innervisions, afterlife)

You saw him last in Stockholm when he performed a magical live set on the big stage under Department festival. Now he comes back for his first major headline play at Slakthuset.

He is like a traveler stuck between two worlds and one hears influences and sounds from both the concrete city and the soft nature. It can go from hard to soft in no time. It is an incredibly beautiful melancholy that arises in Recondite’s productions where it feels like every sound has a thought and a message.

    10/02/2019-10/02/2019
    Slakthusgatan 6, 121 62 Johanneshov, Sweden

RECONDITE LIVE (berlin – dystopian, innervisions, afterlife)

You saw him last in Stockholm when he performed a magical live set on the big stage under Department festival. Now he comes back for his first major headline play at Slakthuset.

What makes Lorenz Brunner aka Recondite extremely unique is his ability to create music that can completely crush any dance floor, but which also makes you feel something every time you hear it. He is like a traveler stuck between two worlds and one hears influences and sounds from both the concrete city and the soft nature. It can go from hard to soft in no time. It is an incredibly beautiful melancholy that arises in Recondite’s productions where it feels like every sound has a thought and a message.

    11/02/2019
    Cirkus, Djurgårdsslätten, Stockholm, Sweden

It is not enough to say that Death Cab for Cutie revolutionized the indie rock landscape – they created a whole new continent for it and showed that emo music was a part of its core. With the 2003 Transatlanticism, the American band not only gave rise to one of their most emotional albums, but at the same time coined, in their own words to explain the indescribable emotional gap between people. Suitable for a band whose music itself seems to resonate an incredible depth, an insight into our stormy feelings. Since then, they have album after album, let every song, pave their place in the world and our lives. On August 17, the band is finally back with the Thank You for Today album, and on February 11, the band returns to Sweden for a show at Circus in Stockholm.

    13:00 -16:00
    16/02/2019
    Västra Trädgårdsgatan 4A, 111 53 Stockholm, Sweden

    Bernar Venet – Angles
    Opening Reception

One of the most celebrated conceptual artists working today, Bernar Venet’s extensive oeuvre is a culmination of intellectual rigour, artistic dexterity and creative investigation of materials ranging from coal and asphalt to steel.

His success was celebrated with a retrospective at the New York Cultural Center when he was just 30 years old. His signature Arcs, Angles, Straight and Indeterminate lines spring forth from intensive mathematical studies of chance and chaos. They can be traced through his work’s evolution from illustrations, to wooden frames and, ultimately, his famous steel sculptures.

Throughout his career, Venet has employed a variety of genres including painting, photography, sound and performance to explore both material and form, as well as existential questions of perception, time and spatiality.

    About the opening film Capernaum:
Capernaum is a city mentioned in the Bible which, according to Jesus, should be condemned to hell. The word is used today as a synonym for chaos, an inferno, a place without peace, mercy, or order. The film’s Capernaum takes place in Beirut’s very poorest and most vulnerable areas, and is about the 12-year-old boy Zain (Zain Alrafeea) who wants to sue their parents because they put him to this world.

Together with an innumerable number of small siblings, Zain spends the days on Beirut’s streets in order to contribute to the family’s livelihood in various ways. It’s a hard life and Zain dreams of finding a dignified existence, a safe place to take his sister Samar (Cedra Izam). He soon realizes that the worst is about to happen, the parents are planning to marry Samar. Zain knows that only he can save her.

The lead role is called Zain even in reality, a Syrian refugee. It is partly his real life purpose we get to take part in the film. For several years, director Nadine Labaki researched and met vulnerable children in various places in Lebanon – slums, police stations, courtrooms and prisons. Places where children have nothing to say about. The result was a very strong film about how the most vulnerable are affected when the most basic elements of civilization are lacking. Where nothing is sacred, where everything can be stolen, violated and sold.

Labaki wrote history when she, as the first Arab woman, won the prestigious Jury Prize during the Cannes Film Festival. Capernaum has won a number of awards worldwide and is Lebanon’s Oscar contribution in 2019.
