As Miriam Bryant’s summer tour came to an end against the grand backdrop of the royal grounds at Ulriksdal, the audience was enjoying what they knew would most likely be one of the last warm evenings of this summer spent outdoors enjoying a shared experience like this. We bring you photos of the show.
From the moment Miriam takes to the stage, there is a sense that she and the band are truly enjoying being up there together. And she commands the stage from the get-go with her mix of vulnerability and swagger.
Miriam Bryant has always had a knack for turning heartbreak, complicated emotions and messy relationships into great songs that resonate with a lot of people.
At Rosendal she is moving effortlessly between the raw emotional weight of her ballads, and the almost anthemic moments of some of her more up-tempo hits.
Her setlist offers quite a mixture of songs stretching from her early hit Push Play to a couple of Så Mycket Bättre favorites and on to tracks from her first Swedish-language album PS Jag hatar dig and her latest offering Okej att dö.
Miriam’s voice remains at the centre of it all, that same voice that made an instant impression from the very first time I saw her live all those years ago. Her voice is instantly recognisable to most Swedes by now, powerful and slightly rough around the edges. It still gets to me after having seen her live 60+ times. And since it’s been a whole year since I saw her last, that familiar feeling of exhilaration hits extra strong.
After the show, some fans linger around in hopes of Miriam coming out to greet them. Which she of course does. She announces she will give a hug to everybody who wants one and the fans take turns hugging it out and exchanging a few words.
Her management asks if anybody wants photos before she will whisk Miriam away, and the fans once again take turns and Miriam gives every single one a moment that will make them feel special.
Made me think of that time back in the early days, it would have been in Vällingby in the autumn of 2013, when Miriam genuinely wondered what made me come back and see her perform time after time (must have been something like my sixth or seventh time to see her by then). This evening it is very evident there is no shortage of fangirls who think it is worth their while to see her over and over again. And she has clearly stopped wondering why we keep coming back.
