Stockholm in September has lots to offer for kids. They can learn, literally about the birds and the bees, take part in the many sporting events over town and be part of a masquerade parade! Check out YLC’s guide on what to do with the family this month.

Children’s Apple Day

A fun day out for all the family with pony and trap rides, apple picking and the chance to buy home made produce!

When: Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd September from 12:00 to 16:00

Where: Lovö Magasin, Lunda gård, Lovö, Drottningholm, 178 93 Ekerö

Age Group: suitable for all ages

Cost: Free

Geology Day at the Natural History Museum

Build volcanoes, find fossils and see a volcanic eruption! Bring your own stone that you’ve found and get it examined by the professionals, who can teach you everything you want to know about meteorites. For the full program, click here.

Parrots at Hågelbyparken

The chance to see amazing birds in our beautiful park. In apple trees, on the north lawn, at 12:00 to 15:00, you can visit the compound and the birds and learn more about everything from parakeets to large macaws.

When: Sunday 1st September and Saturday 28th September from 12:00 to 15:00.

Where: Hågelbyparken, Hågelby Gård, 147 43 Tumba

Age Group: suitable for all ages

30th anniversary at Teatro Pero: Free theatre

This year, Teater Pero celebrates their 30th anniversary and we celebrate by inviting you to view all our current beliefs completely free for a weekend! There will be delicious birthday gift to both our dear and loyal audience and also to all newcomers who have not yet found their way here. Welcome all big and small!

Sunday 8th September

Prince Daniel’s Sports Day at Hagaparken – a chance to try all kinds of sports.

Saturday 21st September

Lilla Hillen at Hellasgården – Mountain Bike racing for 4 -16 year olds (different courses depending on age)

Mini ToppLoppet at Hagaparken:- 200m races for 2-6 year olds; 1.3km for 7-12 year olds.

Sunday 29th September

Knatteloppet och Lilla Lidingöloppet Toddler and Children’s races at Lidingö.

Pick your own Potatoes!

Meet a potato farmer and pick your own spuds, straight from the ground! Check the Facebook page for changes of plan due to weather. A unique day for the family.

When: Saturday 14th – Sunday 15th & Saturday 21st – Sunday 22nd September from 11:00 to 15:00

Where:  T-bana: Slussen, then bus to Säby. Plan your journey here.

Age Group: suitable for all ages

Cost: free to come; potatoes cost 5 SEK per kg

Annual Masquerade with the Knights Club

It’s time for this year’s celebration at City Hall! Put on your finest knight’s armour or princess dress and join the party; there will be jesters and musicians providing the entertainment. You can try putting on make-up, test the swords or try on armour. There will also be the big costume parade down the stairs to the Blue Hall;  Duke Jonas will be on hand to dub all knights and princesses.

When: Saturday 28th September from 15:00 to 17:30 (Come at 14:45)

Where:   Blå Hallen, Stockholms Stadshus, Hantverkargatan 1, 112 21 Stockholm (T-bana: T-Centralen)

Age Group: 3-12 year olds

Cost: Adults and children – 60 SEK; Members of the Knights Club – 40 SEK; Under 3s – free. (Tickets can be purchased in the Armoury store from 1/9 and in place at City Hall, 28/9 from 14:30. NOTE! At City Hall, only cash!)

Family Day at the Opera House

Curious about everything that happens behind the scenes of a theate? Wondering how many yards of tulle is actually in a tutu? And just what does a stage manager actually do? All this and much more will be answered at Family Day at the opera house. Meet those who make the performances possible, try dressing up in our costumes and make your own mask!

During the day there will be a variety of activities; you will need a ticket to attend due to limited seating. Tickets will be released on September 9 at 12:00.

When: Saturday 28th September from 10:00 to 15:00

Where:  Kungliga Operan, Gustav Adolfs torg 2, 111 52 Stockholm. (T-bana: Kungsträdgården)

Age Group: suitable for all ages

Cost: Free admission.

Stockholm County Council celebrates 150 years

Open House will be on September 28th in the county park, where citizens can meet with businesses, politicians and try out activities. There will also be lot of rides and events for children!

When: Saturday 28th September from 10:00 to 17:00

Where: Stockholms läns landsting, Landstingshusets park, Hantverkargatan 45, 112 21 Stockholm (T-bana: Rådhuset)

Honey Day at Överjärva gård

Join us on a guided tour into a hive and see beekeepers collecting honey. Learn about bees, bumblebees, wasps and pollination at the nature school. Watch insects under the microscope and make your own book about bees and honey.

Come to one of our fire stations and learn how you can protect your self and others against fire. Chat with real firefighters and have fun with the firetrucks!

    Hi, just wondering about the pick your potatoes…it says its at tcentralen… but when I click on the website it says its in värmdö…. kinda confused….
