Mysteries, murder, chocolate, jazz and booze; Autumn in Stockholm promises a whole höst of events for you to fall in love with. YLC has picked out the cream of the crop for those days where jumping into a pile of crunchy leaves doesn’t quite cut it.

TEDx Stockholm

Why not warm up to October with a TEDx Warm Up event? TED, and the local, self-organized TEDx, talks are all about ideas worth spreading – and they’re in English. TEDxStockholm aims to create an open forum to meet people and share ideas and insight. At the warm up on Thursday, October 3, there will be two speakers as well as an artist. The main event is on the 21st of October, where there will be eight speakers and an artist. The topic is Uncharted Waters, which will delve into the concept of our existence in relation to the unknown and unfathomable.

When: Warm Up Salon on Thursday, October 3rd from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm; Main event, Monday October 21st, 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm

Where: Warm Up at Summit Skofabriken, main event at SF Bio Rigoletto.

Cost: Warm up event for 150 kr, main event kr 350, or both for 400 kr

The Halloween party of the year!

Due to popular demand, duo Walter and Bettina have put together a classic Halloween party! Stay just for the spooky dinner and party or make a night of it and go for the sleepover option, with access to Sturebadet Haga to unwind after a night of hauntingly good fun. Best costume wins a secret prize.

When: Saturday 26th October; party from 18:30 to 03:00

The Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival with Taste Experience

An event for the true connoisseur! Tasting glasses, included in the admission price, are presented to you upon arrival. You can then proceed to attend various lectures about food and drink from leading experts, as  well as purchase tastings from a variety of stalls.  Tastings are priced at 10 sek and up, depending on the quality of the product.

Stockholm Chocolate Festival

Don’t worry, we haven’t forgotten your taste buds! If you’re struggling to shrug off the fast-approaching winter blues, what better way to go about it than with a truckload of chocolate? The annual Stockholm Chocolate Festival is back from October 3rd – 6th. Contests, activities, chocolate, lectures, an abundance of truffles… and did we mention chocolate? As if you needed an excuse….

When: Thursday, October 3 through Sunday, October 6, see website for times

Cost: Adults 140 kr, children 7-15 20 kr, children under 6 free, family of five 290 kr

Murder Mystery Dinner

Halloween is right around the corner, and what’s Halloween without a little suspense? Bring your favorite murder-mystery board game to life with a thrilling dinner at Scandic Sjöfartshotel. The dinner consists of classic Swedish cuisine and is shared amongst mysterious strangers. Prizes will be awarded for the best characters and most original murder stories.

When: Begins October 5, then certain Saturdays through December 14, see here for dates and times

The Stockholm Open: Tennis in the City

Since its inauguration in 1969, the Stockholm Open has been played every year, with men’s singles and doubles competing on indoor hard courts. Watch the likes of David Ferrer and Fernando Verdasco battle it out in our own beautiful city… while munching on chocolate, of course.

Stockholm Burlesque Festival

Prefer your autumn with a touch of the risqué? Well then, the Stockholm Burlesque Festival will be right up your alley. Glitter, feathers, and plenty of sass and skin can be seen at Nalen in Stockholm on the first weekend of October. Not only can you watch some of the best burlesque artists from around the world, you can attend workshops and even try it out for yourself.

When: Friday 4th to Saturday 5th October

The Stockholm Jazz Festival

Stockholm Jazz Festival is one of Sweden’s oldest festivals and one of Stockholm’s biggest events; it features 60 jazz concerts over 7 days. A must for any jazz fan.

When: Monday 14th to Sunday 20th October. Full programme here.

Where: Kulturhuset, Konserthuset and Fasching Jazz Club

Cost: Each concert must be booked individually from the website. Prices range from 60 to 400 SEK

I Enjoy Wine Show

Do you enjoy wine? Declare your devotion at the wine fair at Fotografiska Museet in Stockholm. Wine providers from around the world will be there with their wares. Taste-test parmesan, olive oils, coffee and, of course, wine while perusing the museum’s current exhibitions.

When: Saturday, October 19, 2 pm to 7 pm

Stockholm Literature Festival

For two days, literature, art and science are brought together in discussions, readings and performances at Moderna Museet.  A total of 13 authors and three playwrights will be featured at the first ever Stockholm Literature Festival.

Night at the Nordic Museum

While the Nordic Museum on Djurgården may not have dinosaurs or cowboys, it’s still an intriguing place to be… especially after dark. Ever wondered what a museum looks like when the lights are out and everyone’s gone home? Wondering if the exhibitions come to life like in Night at the Museum? Well why not bring along the older kids (or a date) to the museum and find out.

Stockholm Ghost Walk

Haven’t had your fill of freaky yet? Here’s the highlight of the month: A ghostwalk through Old Town. Learn about Stockholm’s history while getting into the Halloween spirit. The Ghost Walk takes 90 minutes and is full of tales of murder, mystery, executions, assasinations, diseases…and of course ghosts. Go on, we dare you….

When: In English October 4, 5, 9 and 12 (additional dates in Swedish)

Where: Starts at Järntorget in Old Town
