What to do and where to go with children in Stockholm: July

Jousting at Skokloster Castle

Jousting in the park in cooperation with the Nordic Knights! For five days, there will be fun, music and a medieval market that offers everything from household items to sweets.

There are activities for young and old: how about challenging the family to a knife-throwing competition, letting the kids joust themselves on the wooden horse Lisa, or shooting. There will be daily family tours of the castle and the Royal Armoury Knight Club is the place to be with armour-testing, dubbing and education for all young knights.

When: Wednesday 24th July 24 to Sunday 28th July

Where: Skoklosters slott, 746 96 Skokloster (1 hour drive from Stockholm)

Age Group: suitable for all ages

Cost: 120 SEK for adults; 50 SEK for 7-15 year olds; free for under 7s

Stockholm Street Festival

This year, the festival brings together some of the world’s best street artists, offering spectacular entertainment in the form of magic, acrobatics, humour and exceptional talent. New this year is the ‘magic spot’ where you can see some of Sweden’s top magicians, presented in cooperation with the Magic Bar and Svensk Magisk Cirkel. The ‘Green Spot’ area will be an activity park where there will be sumo wrestling, gladiator games and a balloon sculptor.

When: Friday 5th to Sunday 7th July from 12:00. Full programme here.

American Country Festival

Celebrate the 4th July in proper style! There will be a variety of activities including a line-dance workshop with segway, pony rides, face painting, bull-riding, axe-throwing, shooting and much more! The Peter-Pan carnival will come and make the weekend memorable for all the big and little kids.

When: Thursday 4th to Saturday 6th July from 11:00 to 01:00

Where: Almungevägen 1, 194 51 Upplands Väsby (shuttle from Upplands Väsby station)

Age Group: suitable for all ages

Cost: Various packages, but 100 SEK for families with children between 11:00 to 15:00

‘Pop Art Design’ tour and workshop at Moderna museet

In the exhibition Pop Art design, we explore how pop artists find their motifs in everyday life, such as newspapers, flyers, packaging in the grocery store or car brands. After a tour, we create our own pop art in the workshop; maybe a dream cake, a new stud glass, a dream toy or why not a radio-controlled cloud?

When: Every day at 12:00 (apart from Mondays)

Where: Moderna Museet, Exercisplan, 111 49 Stockholm (Best way of getting here is via bus 65)

Age Group: from 4 years and up

Allsång at Skansen

It’s not summer in Stockholm until Allsång starts! A sing-a-long favourite with Swedes for over 50 years with Tobbe Trollkarl, dancing and lots of fun! This year’s line-up includes Amy Diamond, Markoolio and Oscar Zia.

When: Sundays in July at 14:00

Where: Sollidenscenen, Djurgårdsslätten 49, 115 21 Stockholm

Age Group: suitable for all ages

Cow Safari

Patted a cow lately? Join us on a cow safari out in the pasture! The farmer will take you in a tractor and trailer out to the cows and talk about the animals and life on the farm (we have a roof over the trailer, so we are not so dependent on the weather!) The tour departs at 12 sharp and tickets must be purchased on-site the day of our farm shop, so please arrive in good time! Take the opportunity to also visit the farm’s chickens and rabbits, peek into our farm shop and eat our home-made ice-cream! On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we also offer pony riding.

When: Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday at 12:00

Where: Väddö Gårdsmejeri, Hammarby 6303, 760 40 Väddö

127 Festivalen

A six-week community festival organised by young people for young people. Among other events, the French contemporary circus will be on, as well as a football tournament night, cinema, mural painting, stand-up, basketball, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, crafts, dance workshops, clothing exchange, designlab, DIY and more. Everything is completely free of charge.

Monday through Friday.

When: Monday 1st July to Friday 9th August

Where:  1-12/7: Bredäng, 15-26/7: Vårberg and 29/7-9/8: Skärholmen

Age Group: 5-20 year olds

Cost: Free entry

Children’s Opera

An opera for young people; Prinsessan Erik takes on the issue of gender stereotypes. Can a boy be Princess ? What makes a princess – and what is a princess, really?  A tale of longing and courage, nightmares and sibling love.

Pirate-themed theatre show and treasure hunt

Enjoy a historical adventure with a treasure hunt followed by the fun and fast-paced show Kim och Piratäventyret!

At 12:15, the characters take you on atour around the island based on Fjäderholmarnas own breathtaking history. You will go on a treasure hunt and take part in a quiz around the island: win great prizes if you manage to figure out where the treasure is hidden!

At 13:15 you can watch Kim och Piratäventyret, an exciting and fun-filled family show with both acrobatics, singing, dancing and fencing where Kim must capture the pirates who come to Fjäderholmarna! Come along and help Kim on her adventures to save the island and become one of Fjäderholmarna’s heroes!

Viking market at Birka

Experience the Viking age, meet artisans and merchants from far and wide, listening to folk musicians and see fighters clash in battle. A fun-filled family day out.

When: Saturday 6th to Sunday 14th July

Where: Birka Vikingastaden, Björkö, Ekerö (take the boat from Stadshusbron)

Age Group: suitable for all ages

Cost: Over 11s – 345 SEK; 6-11 year olds – half price; under 6s – free (includes return boat-trip, tour and entrance)
