Is there a place for un-staged photography in art?

Katri Naukkarinen (b. 1984) is an artist working within the extended field of photography, exploring the world through the lens: a camera travels with her everywhere. The meaningful can be found in the surrounding reality, in vizualizing the invisible parts of the immediate environment, in one’s own reflections and examination of those. Seemingly light and easy snapshot method that Naukkarinen uses in her work is a result of years of learning and contemplating.
“Taking photographs should be meaningful here and now, not unlike existence”

    YYY

YYY is an experimental zine and exhibition concept published and curated by Katri Naukkarinen. For each issue two photographic thinkers, besides Naukkarinen, are invited to have a conversation of sorts, within the pages of a tabloid magazine.

The fourth issue of YYY, YYY4, will be published at the Finlandsinstitutet’s Galleri November 15, 2018 at the opening of the exhibition with the same name. The participants for the 4th issue are, besides Katri Naukkarinen herself, Hallgerður Hallgrímsdóttir (www.hallgerdur.com) from Iceland and Linn Phyllis Seeger (www.linn-phyllis-seeger.com) from Germany. In addition to the zine, works from all the three artists will be displayed at the exhibition.

    About collaboration

The process around YYY is a reminder about the power of collaboration. There are many forms of collaboration and creativity linked into the event in November: collaboration between the three artists in creating YYY4; Naukkarinen is artist-in-residency in Stockholm in November 2018 looking for new collaborative partners and working on her projects; the events and residency period are the result of the collaboration between CFF – Centrum för fotografi, Malongen / NKF – Nordic Art Association – SwedenPhotographic Gallery Hippolyte – Helsinki, Finland / Photographic Artists’ Association in Finland and Finlandsinstitutet Stockholm; the musician Lau Nau (Laura Naukkarinen, www.launau.com), who performs at the opening of the exhibition, represents the power of collaboration of sisterhood.
