What’s on and where to go with children in Stockholm: June

June brings lots of outdoor fun for children, from hunting monsters in Vaxholm to Pirate festivals at Fjäderholmarna. There’s sporting fun to be had at the mini-marathon, cultural learning at the Summer Nobel Prize Exhibition and even something for fashionistas. Here are  Your Living City’s top picks on activities to do in June with children in Stockholm.

Children’s Day at Vaxholm

We celebrate Children’s Day once again with a thorough program for all children and adults, including – Guest performance by Teater Tr3, face painting, bouncy castle, fiskdamm, dance lessons and a “Monster Hunt”!

When: Sunday 9th June from 11:00 to 17:00

Family Sundays at the architecture museum now have a fashionable appeal! Design your own clothes and accessories with inspiration from Jean Paul Gaultier: You also get the chance to try the catwalk for yourself!

Open House at Stora Skuggans 4-H Farm

Bring your family and friends to this open day and come and meet the new lambs! The farm is there for children, youth and adult nature enthusiasts who want to learn more and develop as people. festival: display 2013

festival: display is a choreography festival, where you can see and experience dance and art in an exciting and different way. More than 25 choreographers and artists will be represented. You will get to see dance and art projects in the form of video, photo, text, installations, and, of course, dance! Most of the works are in progress at the same time and you as an audience can walk around the room and take note of what you want.

Jubilee Concert with Lilla Akademien

Celebrating 15 years of this wonderful music school, with performances by the pupils.

National Day at the Armoury with Knight dubbing

A full day of activities and free guided tour (in English!) of the castle and free admission. The program includes music, stone-cutting demonstrations, knight dubbing (from 11:00 to 13:00), exhibitions, guard parade and much more!

Mini Stockholm Marathon

Stockholm Mini Marathon is the big running event for all boys and girls between 5 and 17 years. The key is not to be first, but to have a good time whilst  exercising well. You can sprint, take it easy or jog around with your buddies on the day after the ASICS Stockholm Marathon. Participants get a medal and the race T-shirt.

When: Sunday 2nd June from 10:00. Different start times are listed here.

Where: Starting line is at the Olympic Stadium (T-bana: Stadion)

Age Group: 5 to 17 year olds

An Astrid Lindgren Tour of Stockholm

Children’s tour of Stockholm looking for things that remind us of Astrid Lindgren’s tales in the buildings, sculptures and among the trees. See the characters from Karlsson on the Roof, Mio, Pippi and Nils Karlsson in a different way!

Jungle fever Family Weekend at Balettakadamien

A collaboration between the association Jungle fever® Youth Club and Baletakadamien to spread creativity and enhance cultural understanding among children in Uganda and Sweden. Painting, dancing and craft activities.

When: Saturday 1st June from 17:00 to 21:30; Sunday 2nd June from 14:00 to 18:00

Fjäderholmens Festivalen

Treasure hunt in the archipelago with a pirate-themed festival! Fjäderholmarna will be filled with theatre shows, treasure hunts, crafts, music, fun and much much more! A full day for the family to celebrate the start of the summer.

When: Saturdays and Sundays from 1st to 16th June at 11:00

Where: Fjäderholmsteatern Festival, Fjäderholmarna (take a boat from Slussen or Nybroplan)

Nobel Exhibition at Konserthuset

In this summer’s new show, The Nobel Prize Award Ceremony: The Exhibition,  you will partake of the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony prepared in every detail – from security and sniffer dogs to flower arrangements and music selection. In the children’s Nobel Prize enclosure, there are drawing facilities and the children get to say what they would like to receive the Nobel Prize in and put on formal wear, just like a Nobel laureate.

When: from Tuesday 18th June to Saturday 24th August
