You don’t have to travel to Italy to have proper gelato anymore… Some ice cream parlors in Stockholm are truly mastering the art of  the ice cream making and putting a great deal of effort on good quality ingredients sourced in Sweden and even brought directly from Italy’s sunny fields. Have a look at this ultimate ice cream round-up YLC has prepared for you and make sure you visit at least a few of this masters of gelato on sunshiny days in the Swedish capital.

Fryst – Kungsholms strand 167
Prices from 40
What can we say? Freshness and natural flavours at their best is what you’ll have with Fryst’s ice creams. Our favourite was Mango and Passionfruit, but all of their flavours are very tempting and the portions are quite generous. They produce all of their ice cream on-site. Fryst may be a little shop, but they compensate for it with a pretty view over the water towards Karlbergs Slott and Vasastan. You can sit outside and take in the view as you get a refreshing break with one of their ice creams.

StikkiNikki – several addresses check StikkiNikki’s website to find the nearest shop
Prices from 35
Stikki Nikki produces organic gelato and offers gluten-free and vegan alternatives as well. Their ice creams are very creamy, but not heavily loaded that you feel like you just had a whole meal after having one. They always have new and creative flavours on offer and they’re not afraid to have you trying them all. Their staff will have you trying their novelties before you make up your mind on the flavour you’re going to have. On our visit they had organic avocado and white coffee, which was a cold brew created by leaving the milk resting with the coffee over night taking in all the flavours. We had Coffee ice cream and it was fabulous!

Café Dazyr / Stockholms Glass & Pastahus – Valhallavägen 155
Prices from 30kr
Perfect balance between sweetness and creaminess. Many original flavours to choose from. We can highly recommend Zupa Inglese, which means English soup. This is an Italian dessert layering custard and sponge cake, perhaps derived from trifle. Their Cinnamon ice cream is also great! You can decide whether to enjoy it in their large sitting area inside or outside the café.

With flavours such as True Rocky Road, a mix of Oreo, chocolate ice cream, salty caramel and marshmallows, Yuzu Spearmint Sorbet, a tangy-limy-minty Japanese fruit, King Scoopa has perhaps the most original ice creams in town. At this tiny but very groovy shop you’ll be greeted by its cordial and cheerful owner, Sem, who will be very happy to offer you a taster of his ice-creams. We can recommend Lingonberry Sorbet! Portions are big and generous. Stay a while and have a go at one of their ice cream burgers They may be one of the sweetest and most delicious things you’ve tried in your life.

Nonna’s Gelato – Norr Mälarstrand 36

Prices from 35

An oasis in Kungsholment with a cute little outdoor sitting area facing lake Mälaren amongst greenery and flowers. Perhaps you should know that Nonna’s Gelato won the Swedish Ice cream championship 2016, their Hazelnut flavour won Nonna’s Gelato a bronze whilst their Lemon and Ginger Sorbet won them silver and we tried this sorbet and we can ensure you that it is indeed the freshest thing you can think of.

Nonna’s Gelato’s owners trained in Italy and are trying to recreate the Italian gelato flavours in Sweden. Because of their success they now have other distributors selling it in Stockholm. They have 12 to 15 flavours in rotation. Do try their Chocolate Sorbet, which is their best-seller. It is completely vegan and has 70% Belgian chocolate. It’s so crazily soft and creamy  that you wouldn’t believe there’s no dairy in it.

18 Smaker – Hornsgatan 64

Price from 32kr

One word: delicious! All of their flavours taste so natural, among them their sorbets prepared with oat milk.

We highly recommend you to try the Hazelnut  flavour, as crunchy and nutty as it sounds. But beware as they don’t always have the same flavours available leaving room for other fresher flavours to take their place and also adding variety to their sweet menu. Here you will find both outdoor and indoor sitting in a 50’s kinda style.
