Electric Banana Band – a uniquely Swedish cultural phenomenon

Electric Banana Band is a joyful fusion of children’s music, rock, humour and environmental messaging, and they have entertained generations since their founding in 1980. They played at Gröna Lund and of course we were there.

Created by beloved Swedish entertainers Lasse Åberg and Klasse Möllberg, the band emerged from a popular children’s TV show Trazan & Banarne. Drawing inspiration from jungle themes, the band embraced a visual and musical style that was instantly recognizable.

The band’s repertoire includes timeless classics like Banankontakt and Min Piraya Maya, songs that have become ingrained in the Swedish cultural psyche. Though initially aimed at children, their catchy tunes, clever lyrics, and playful performances have made Electric Banana Band beloved across all age groups. Musically, they blend pop, rock, reggae, and funk with high energy and whimsy, creating an accessible and fun soundscape that resonates with both kids and adults.

Their concert at Gröna Lund was highly interactive as always – encouraging sing-alongs, dancing, and audience participation – creating unforgettable shared experiences. The band delivered a setlist packed with fan favorites, blending music, costumes, humor and heartfelt energy. Electric Banana Band once again proved that they remain a living, vibrant force in Swedish music. They are a cult phenomenon, that continues to create contact between children and nostalgia driven adults through their inclusive values and swinging tunes.
