It’s all about the brunch! – Stockholm’s best brunch spots

A weekend without brunch is like a sunset without the sun, a margarita without tequila, an ocean without waves… it’s just not right! And that is why we took to the task of searching and researching around Stockholm for the very best brunches. So next weekend you don’t have to worry about anything else than getting out of bed, being very hungry and heading over to one of these fantastic late-morning or early-afternoon culinary destinations.

Low & Slow

Luntmakargatan 98

How do you like your brunch? Boozy or juicy? The first Sunday of every month Low & Slow offers a smoky brunch to savour. Imagine ending your weekend with boozy cocktails and juicy, full-of-taste meat.

If you are there in a party of two or more, we recommend you to go for several of their main dishes to share, because believe us, everything on their menu is worth trying.

When we visited Low & Slow, we were treated to 5 brunch dishes for us to taste. Somehow we managed to finish them all. Actions speaks louder than words.

These dishes are a must:

Something for real meat lovers, the Pig Wing, with a crispy barbecued exterior, layered on top tender meat with the right amount of flavour. This is great if you want to add that extra meat load to your brunch without so much trimmings.

Bananas Foster French Toast, which is much more than a sweet french toast. It has an indulgent cinnamon taste, fresh bananas bathed in rum sauce and roasted pecans. Perfect as the last dish if you are two or more.

The Nashville Hot Chicken Toast is a real feast! Crispy fried chicken in a burger bun with mustard, honey and fresh jalapeños. The perfect balance of taste and spice.

The Brisket Scramble – that’s what we call southern BBQ brunch! You have the eggs and then you have the brisket, which is what Low & Slow does best! Really good with the hash’s well balanced flavours.

Österlånggatan 17

Österlånggatan 17

We recommend you to open up your appetite with the Snacks Platter with charcuterie cuts, pimientos and mozzarella… And at the same time you can also open the conversation with your friends around the table in an almost festive mood, inspired by the beautiful decoration inside Österlångatan 17. And if you feel like it, you could pair that starter with one of their original cocktails.

Their brunch menu has plenty of options to please every palate. In it you’ll find everything from burgers to sandwiches, toast, eggs in different styles, salads, warm dishes such as meat balls and of course a good share of vegetarian and vegan options, plus some to-die-for desserts.

These dishes are a must:

During our visit to Österlångatan we went for the Steak Sandwich – and that is exactly what the weekend should taste like. Filled with home made pastrami, hot cabbage sallad, jalapeño and cream and it comes with spiced-up fries on the side.

The Creamy Buffalo Mozzarella with pickled chili , grapefruit and hazelnuts was one of our absolute favourites and one of the tastiest surprises of the brunch.

Also a real feast are the Grilled Sourdough Bread with sun-dried tomato cream, crispy bacon, sallad and chips on the side, as well as the vegan Ö17’s Falafel with baked tomatoes, vinegar, crispy green salad and coriander.

Let the weekend mood stay upbeat and order one of their signature brunch cocktails.

Greasy Spoon

Tjärhovsgatan 19 & Hagagatan 4

With two addresses in Stockholm, one in Söder and one in Vasastan, there is no cooler spot in town to have brunch than Greasy Spoon, starting with the relaxed ambience and playful decoration you will find yourself surrounded by. It is worth mentioning that they also have the friendliest staff, always keen on providing you with the best food and drink recommendations to match your typical weekend late-morning or early-evening mood.

Besides being absolutely delicious and full of flavour, the food is colourful and vibrant. Definitely a way to inject energy to your weekend, when you need it the most.

These dishes are a must:

The utterly delicious Pink Rosti, consisting of cold-smoked salmon on top of hash-brown-like crispy potato, comes with poached egg and beetroot hollandaise and sprinkled with hazelnut flakes, a crispy and soft symphony.

Their very popular Eggs Benedict come with  homemade hollandaise on poached egg and half-toasted English muffin. We tried the version with bacon and we couldn’t get enough of how savoury it was. You can also have it with salmon or vegetarian with spinach.

Fancy proper American-style pancakes? Greasy Spoon has them, we believe they might be the spongiest pancakes in town. We went for the Blueberry Scotch Pancakes, infused with vanilla aroma, covered in blueberries and jam and topped with pistachio mascarpone.

Most of the dishes at Greasy Spoon are adaptable into vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free versions, so don’t be afraid to ask! They’re also a dog-friendly restaurant, so get out of bed, take your doggy for a stroll and indulge yourself at Greasy Spoon.

Urban Deli

Nytorget 4, Sveavägen 44 & Hesselmans Torg 12

With three addresses in Stockholm, Urban Deli lives up to its fame of delicious food and fresh quality ingredients. Whichever of their venues you choose to visit, you will be welcomed with a smile by their friendly staff and good service.

At Urban Deli’s brunch menu, you’ll find plenty of options to please your mood, there’s something for those who want to be good and eat healthy and for those who want to be cheeky and are looking for that luscious weekend treat.

These dishes are a must:

Why not start with their vegan Avocado Crispy Salad – not your average salad, this one truly is wholesome and loaded with flavour! Every bite is full of crunchiness with its sesame seeds, pine nuts and peanuts. Perhaps it’s secret lies in its delicious vinaigrette and dressing. This was our favourite dish during our visit.

Then we strongly recommend you to try one of their sassy and original cocktails. Unfortunately you will not be able to keep it at just one, as you’ll easily end up having the second or third because they’re just THAT good! Try for example the Hugo Spritz with elderflower, fresh mint, lemon and cava, or a Nytorget Fizz with gin and seasonal flavours – ours had orange, zest and chili flakes.

Their juicy Lax Benedict on a warm toast is also a must.

Urban Deli’s twist to the Swedish Skagen is also worth trying, it comes in a squidgy croissant with thin red apple slices and chives.

And why not finish your brunch with a little naughtyness and try one of Urban Deli’s desserts, like the Fried Waffle, a deep-fried waffle, with vanilla ice cream and dulce de leche, or their Belgian Waffle with whipped cream, berries and maple syrup.

Långholmen Wärdshus

Alstaviksvägen 19

Housed in Alstavik’s ore yard, adjacent to an old prison from the 17th century on the Långholmen island. Långholmen Wärdshus is today part of a complex that includes a hotel, cafe, bar and a top class restaurant. It’s surrounded by the water and beautiful greenery, which makes for a complete weekend activity. You can either cycle across Södermalm and into Långholmen, then park your bike and take a stroll around this beautiful tiny island before enjoying a rewarding brunch at Långholmen’s restaurant. Weather permitting you can even sit outside and take in the fresh air.

They offer a buffet brunch, the only one on our list, where all the dishes are home made and prepared on site á la minute, using only quality ingredients. So you can be 100% sure that everything is as fresh as it gets. The buffet is divided into cold dishes, warm dishes, bread, a broad selection of Swedish cheeses and desserts.

One thing that makes Långholmen’s brunch buffet even more interesting is that the warm dishes section is themed according to the season, so you can be sure that every time you visit them, there will be something new on the menu to experience! During our visit the seasonal theme was German-inspired.

These dishes are a must:

Start with their cold dish selection, a mix of fresh and healthy salads, steamed vegetables, cold pies, beets, cold cuts, pickles. Do not miss out, I repeat, DO NOT MISS OUT on their very unique homemade pickled herrings. This is something you will not find anywhere else. They have created some original preparations like curry herring, chili and chocolate herring, raspberry with horseradish and the best, the Sean Connery herring with unknown ingredients, but too good to even bother!!

From their warm buffet we recommend you to try the red wine gravy on the Nurnberger Bratwurst and the succulent omelette with gruyere and ham.

Please the sweet tooth and make your own waffle on their waffle machine or try one of their tempting desserts like their yummy pecan pie.
