Walking into Kasai on Linnégatan 18 feels less like entering a restaurant and more like stepping into an elegant, softly glowing sanctuary. The décor is a masterclass in balance: sober yet sumptuous, sophisticated yet cozy, with warm tones, golden lights, and a contemporary Japanese aesthetic that sets the mood the moment you arrive. The atmosphere is serene and inviting – a place where brunch becomes an experience rather than a meal.

We were welcomed by charming, attentive staff, who guided us to a spacious, beautifully set table bathed in gentle, diffused light. Before the food even arrived, the tone was unmistakably elevated. A menu of exotic signature cocktails was presented, and we opted for the Sekana No Kunsei — a smoky, aromatic delight served in an pufferfish-shaped glass. It was playful, elegant, and absolutely delicious.
The brunch begins table-side with a two-part appetiser service. First comes the edamame, sprinkled with Kasai’s signature salt and just the right kick of jalapeño – simple, fresh, and addictive. Then arrives a duo of beautifully plated bites: crispy salmon tempura tacos bursting with flavour, and a spicy tuna tartare that is as luxurious to look at as it is to taste. Both dishes are rich, balanced, and bold without ever losing refinement.

But the heart of Kasai’s brunch — its true centrepiece — is the sushi bar buffet, where the restaurant’s itamae and shokunin (skilled sushi chefs) work with quiet precision behind the counter. This is no ordinary buffet. Every piece of sushi, sashimi, nigiri and maki is made with high-quality ingredients, thoughtfully sourced and prepared with care. The chefs craft each plate individually, selecting your chosen pieces and arranging them like edible art. The sushi is so beautifully assembled that you hesitate before taking the first bite — but once you do, the freshness and delicacy speak for themselves.

Just when the journey feels complete, dessert arrives as a theatrical finale. A glossy chocolate dome filled with vanilla ice cream and raspberry is placed at the center of the table. Warm miso sauce is then poured over it, melting the shell and revealing its sweet, aromatic contents. It is not just dessert — it’s a performance, a moment of pure delight that ends the brunch on a high note. Don’t forget your coffee or cappuccino or why not an espresso martini to pair with this chocolaty delight!
A special mention goes to Kasai’s staff, providing service with a smile, always attentive and catering for you. During our visit they even allowed us a walking tour through the different areas of the restaurant which is also a night club and has function rooms.
We had heard glowing reviews of Kasai’s Japanese brunch, but every expectation was surpassed. From the first sip of my cocktail to the last spoonful of the molten chocolate dessert, the entire experience was a feast for all the senses. Elegant, delicious, beautifully orchestrated — Kasai is the kind of place you return to again and again. And trust me: I already can’t wait to go back!
