Crispy leaves rustle at our feet and the first fresher winds are announcing that winter is coming soon. Life starts retracting indoors, but not only homewards… This is also a time for indoor music and film festivals, dining out at cozy restaurants or attending fairs like the Baking and Chocolate Fair. Oh yes, this is also the time we like to dress up like ghosts and pumpkins and go trick-or-treating. Let us guide you to some of this months event highlights, things to see and do in Stockholm.

Chelas – There’s a New Mexican in Town

Located at the trendy Hornstull neighbourhood of Södermalm, at Verkstadsgatan 4,  you’ll find Chelas, Stockholm’s newest Mexican restaurant. Chelas opened its doors in July of 2019. The name comes from the Mexican slang word for beers and a phrase the Mexicans use when they want to socialise with friends and family: “Saca las chelas”. Literally translated it means “Bring out the beers”, but it can actually be better interpreted as “Let’s have some beers and hang out”.

Unique Stockholm Restaurants With A Great Wine List

The wine culture in Sweden is expanding, especially with the increase of vineyards in Skåne in the south of the country. In fact, 42% of all alcohol sales in Sweden consist of wine, and this is very different from brännvin, the traditional Swedish drink that translates as burn-wine. You can of course buy wine from the state owned Systembolaget. However, the only other place that you can buy wine and enjoy a glass is in licenced restaurants and bars that serve food. There are some great restaurants in Stockholm that unite their food and wine menu in perfect harmony, taking equal consideration to both.

Anna Camner: A Plague I Call a Heartbeat

Anna Camner’s paintings invite reflective contemplation. They are precise close-up studies of materials, textures and surfaces, but it is difficult to determine just what these materials are; natural, or fabricated, alive or dead. The paintings are usually small and to perceive their details, they must be seen up close in an intimate encounter with the artwork. With technical brilliance, Camner uses the possibilities of painting to create pictures that could hardly be achieved with a camera.

Camner (b. 1977) graduated from the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm, in 2003. Her work has been exhibited internationally in solo shows in London and New York and recently in a group show in Mumbai, India. In conjunction with the award of the prestigious annual Beckers Art Award in 2017, her work was exhibited at Färgfabriken, Stockholm, Sweden.
This is Camner’s first exhibition at Galerie Forsblom.

Toni R. Toivonen: The Last Presence

Toivonen’s work stem from a physical process of decay where deceased animals like dogs, hares, cows and horses, are transformed into artworks. Toivonen places the animal onto a sheet of brass and when putting it to its final rest, the procedure becomes a burial. By time, the animals decompose into a nature morte, a still life, where they are captured in their last presence.

Toni R. Toivonen (b. 1987) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki, 2016. He has been exhibited extensively in Finland as well as internationally in Berlin, Vienna, London, and New York. His works are included in public collections at the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, the Sara Hildén Museum of Art in Finland and at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Kraków, Poland. In 2019 Toivonen received a grant from the Greta and William Lehtinen Foundation.

    Ann-Sofie Claesson: One Life

Ann-Sofie Claesson’s artistry is anchored in universal themes such as time, memory, identity and family. At Galerie Forsblom a new series of paintings is presented, based on black and white photographs that pays an homage to her grandmother. The surface of the paintings has a texture reminiscent of organic patterns. Fleeting moments and memories linger in Claesson’s works along with the transient nature of time and life.

Claesson (b. 1992) graduated from the University of the Arts Helsinki, 2018. She has exhibited in the studio at Galerie Forsblom in Helsinki and in group exhibitions including Liljevalchs, Stockholm, Borås Museum of Modern Art, Sweden and Amos Andersson’s Art Museum, Helsinki, Finland.

Peter Blake at Wetterling Gallery Stockholm

Wetterling Gallery is proud to present the exhibition ‘Joseph Cornell’s Holiday’ by Sir Peter Blake. The American artist Joseph Cornell (1903- 1972) has been a great inspiration for Peter Blake. Cornell is sometimes referred to as Americas first surrealist, working with shadow boxes in which he arranged fragments of found objects. He also made films and collages. Joseph Cornell lived a rather isolated life taking care of his mother and disabled brother, basically never leaving the New York City area.

In the exhibition ‘Joseph Cornell’s Holiday’, Peter Blake sends out Cornell on a travel through Europe. In a large number of paper collages Blake lets Cornell visit places he couldn’t travel to in his own life.

    Chromatics Berns Stockholm

Chromatics embarks on an extensive European tour. The Double Exposure Tour reaches its second stop, in the European half, Stockholm for an evening out of the ordinary. Chromatics will be making its first Swedish gig in seven years, will perform favourites from Night Drive, Kill For Live, Cherry and Dear Tommy. Backed by Johnny Jewels films mixed by video artists Danny Perez, all possible boundaries between concerts, scenes and screens are blurred.

With them this evening they also have Montreal-based Desire. There will be just as many parts of italo-disco and dream pop as a minimalist wave and kraut rocking the evening with Under Your Spell, which featured in the movie Drive.

Chromatics recently released the single Time Rider, a metaphor of the bridge between the future and the past. Now you can finally experience it live.

No wonder that in just a few years, Ariana has become one of the world’s most successful and brightest stars on the pop sky. The single “No Tears Left To Cry” debuted at a first place on iTunes in 88 countries and gave a taste of how Grand’s fourth studio album “Sweetener” should sound. Arianda Grande succeeded with something like no other artist in music history so far has – placing the first steps on her way to her four top 10 album on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

There is no doubt that Ariana Grande is one of today’s most successful artists.

    Gröna Lund Halloween english

Halloween at Gröna Lund is back bringing a lot of fun and great times for all ages and lots of blood-soaking news.

    Fewer seats, GREATER EXPERIENCE
New for this year that all tickets are date controlled, meaning you buy a ticket for a specific date. Another news for this year is that there are limited number of tickets with a maximum of 12,500 people for each opening day as the area this year is limited due to Gröna Lund’s redevelopment. This means that even you who have free entry (0-6 years and 65+ years) need to pre-book your ticket to enter the park. Allowing Gröna Lund also to take care and scare all their guests in the best way. And they promise that this year, the park experience will be more cool than ever!

    ATTRACTIONS AND HOME
The entire amusement park with attractions is open, where the Lilla Området, the kiddies area is adapted for younger visitors with pumpkins, witches, ghosts and children’s performances every day. In the Greater Area, the more courageous visitors will be able, among other things, to take part in the haunted Ship that returns and more terrifying new rides.
