Stockholm Culture Festival this year decided to give Thursday’s top billing on the main stage to two young and talented female artists, GRANT and Janice. They may still not be widely known to the masses in Sweden, but both bring such quality to the game that they were so deserving to be on that big stage — and they are destined for even bigger things.
GRANT’s live presence is always intense and it seems to get even more so the bigger the stages become. She really gets into the emotions of her songs and makes the audience feel them too.
Janice has raised her soul pop to an international level with such confidence she took control and commanded the stage from the moment she stepped on it.
We saw both artists doing their own sets, joined by Stockholm Strings and Horns to give an extra bit of luxury to the musical experience. In between their solo sets, the two also did a couple of great cover songs. Firstly Tove Styrke‘s Changed My Mind, which GRANT recorded a cover of ahead of touring with Tove last year. Secondly, a Swedish classic called Två av oss, which Janice in turn had covered previously with Ji Nilsson. On this evening, Janice and GRANT were joined on stage by none other than Efva Attling, who wrote and performed the original with her group X-Models.
