A new musical direction for Amber Boss

Amber Boss has been known to sing R’n’B and pop, but she is now taking her musical project towards a new direction with her new single Situation, which is out today. Amber explained more about the new sound and how it represents a new path for her personally as well.

What inspired you to take this new artistic direction towards breakbeat and dance? Was there a particular moment or experience that made you realize it was time to evolve in a different direction?

Amber: It was actually My producer BELLMAN’s new project combined with Zara Larsson‘s album Midnight Sun and especially the song Blue Moon that opened my eyes for BreakBeat and inspired me to try something new. And I’m not going to lie, I was so scared because it did not ”feel like me”. I slowly started exploring BreakBeat more with artists like Venbee and PinkPantheress and with that I fell in love with the UK Jersey sound as well, which we have combined in some of the new songs of this project.

I’ve been struggling for so long with finding myself in my artistry and even though R’n’B and pop have been my home and safe space, it was time to try something new for myself. I have been longing for a sound that makes ME jump and dance, and SITUATION made me do just that from the first demo.

You describe the new release as a new path both personally and artistically. How does this manifest in the song?

Amber: The title of the song, SITUATION, says it all. It reflects me being stuck in different situations of wanting to let go of the past, looking forward towards new beginnings and trying to be patient with myself in the middle of the chaos. I have a tendency to be very sentimental, which can make it hard for me to let go of different eras of myself, people, places and how it was before something might have changed.

I’ve always seen myself in a way I ”have to be” and held on to her for so long and at the end I could not really connect to her. That also made me realize that this Situation is not healthy and its time to let her go and explore this grown version of myself that is no longer stuck in a made up box to please others.

If this single represents the future of your project, what can we expect from you going forward?

Amber: You can expect music that will move you through dancing but also lyrically. A less Scared Amber Boss that is no longer Ice Cold and coming out of her made up box.
