SVT’s new drama series Hunger serves up a generous helping of restaurant chaos, family secrets and simmering tensions. The brand-new series is set to premiere on 2nd October and we had a little chat with some of the cast.
Siblings Agnes (Matilda Källström) and Oscar (Rasmus Savic) take over their father’s struggling restaurant, hoping for a fresh start. Instead, they find themselves dealing with debts, tax troubles, old secrets, jealousy, romance and a power struggle that threatens to boil over both in and out of the kitchen.
With sweaty kitchens, messy dining rooms and a cast of gloriously dysfunctional characters, Hunger looks set to be a classic guilty pleasure. As the restaurant struggles to stay afloat, Agnes and Oscar must fight to save the business while trying not to destroy their family in the process.
Expect plenty of arguments, love, betrayals and the kind of chaos that makes it very tempting to watch “just one more episode”.
Ahead of the launch of the series we had the chance to have a little chat with the main charactes Matilda Källström and Rasmus Savic, as well as Hanna Ferm, who is making her acting debut in the series (you may know Hanna from her singing career).
Has being a part of this series given you a newfound respect for people in the restaurant field?
– Well it’s not like I didn’t already have respect before, but I have even more respect now for people in this field, says Rasmus Savic.
– I actually also work in the restaurant field privately, in between my more artistic pursuits, he continues.
– Me too, I have also worked in the restaurant field since I was 14, so I have had some kind of understanding of how it is. But all this cooperation between the kitchen and the dining part, and specifically running a restaurant, being a restaurant owner is something I have gained new insight into, says Matilda Källström.
– I think it’s really great that they decided to make a production centered on restaurant life, because there’s really so much to tap into there, she continues.
After hearing all this I basically had to thank them for those kind words, and reveal that I am in fact also a restaurant owner in my other life. And this being so close to home, it of course makes this series the most interesting one of the whole season for me personally. Looking forward to seeing how they are portraying all the stress and the adrenaline and…
– All the fast-paced action. And the relief when the dust settles and the rush is over. Like what have we just been a part of…?, Rasmus fills in.
– Beside all that action it’s also about the will to make things work. Like it is a family project, says Matilda.
– It feels like the series centers very much on your family, all parts of it and not just the kitchen. There’s a lot happening in relations and other things. How everything works together and is interconnected, Hanna Ferm chimes in.
How did Hanna feel about making her acting debut?
– It was so much fun! I learned so much, and I really wanted to learn! I used to stay and watch when the others were playing their parts, Hanna says.
– It was so great on every front. It was great fun to take on a role. It was strangely difficult but also very cool to become someone else. To really try and get into the role. It felt liberating to let go of one’s own self, Hanna continues.
But you have also continued with your music at the same time? You have recently released an EP…
– This was filmed like in August of 2025, and during the time we were filming I was also doing some gigs, at least in the beginning, Hanna says.
– She’s a real star, with one foot in every place!, Matilda interjects.
– I will continue with the music, but it would be really great to be doing something more in this field, Hanna adds.
– This work has given a whole different sense of community compared with being a solo artist. It’s been a different kind of challenge and a different type of stimulation than with my other work. It’s been so fun!, Hanna concludes.
