Christopher Garplind takes some familiar faces on a holiday

Popular Swedish radio personality Christopher Garplind felt like his life was a burning hell with way too much on his plate. So he thought he needed a holiday, or a few, and took along some well-known Swedish people who he also thought could use a break from their daily lives.

It turned into six trips and six episodes on SVT, with the premiere taking place on 9th November. In that first episode he heads to Zermatt in Switzerland with acclaimed author David Lagercrantz.

Other familiar faces in the upcoming programmes include music people like Daniela Rathana, Markus Krunegård and Miriam Bryant, as well as actor Ulf Brunnberg and Hollywood wife Anna Anka.

During SVT’s press day we had the opportunity to chat with Christopher and Miriam Bryant about their experience travelling to Scotland. We asked Christopher how he picked his travel companions.

“I basically picked the people based on who I thought would be fun to travel with. And I also wanted a good mix of personalities”, Christopher said.

When asking them how it was to travel together, Miriam said it was a lot of fun, basically 10 out of 10 as far as job things go. And she had this to say:

“Usually when you make such TV programmes there’s a lot of focus on like ‘What’s happening with you and your music next?’. There was very little of that interview feeling with this programme, which felt really nice. I think it’s quite a unique approach to go on a trip with “celebrities” and not interview them. Just getting the chance to travel together and figure out what fun things to do. There was like no pressure of ‘Now we are getting to know this person’… It was more about us getting to know the place we travelled to, which was fun.”

And it was also a chance for the two of them to get to know each other better, as they hadn’t really spent time together prior to the trip, other than going to plenty of the same parties and having lots of mutual friends.

Christopher told how strongly he felt it all: “When you go on a trip like this and spend so much time together so intensively, I felt such a strong separation anxiety when I got home.”

When asked what they take with them from the trip, Miriam said “Quite a lot actually. Travelling to a place where we’ve never been before and we still got to meet so many special and unique people. That’s what I take with me, beside getting to know Christopher properly. We got to see people who live completely different lives, which makes one humble.”

Christopher went on: “We met for example a goat farmer, who has done the same thing every day for 40 years. It was a reminder that not everybody’s going around in the Stockholm bubble embarrassing themselves.”

Catch Semester med Garplind on SVT Play starting from 9th November. The Miriam Bryant episode is on 7th December.
