Pays D’OC Wines to light up the autumn

pays d'oc wines french autumn

When the first Pays d’Oc wines (which later became IGP wines “Vins à Indication Géographique Protégée” in 2009) were released in 1987, no one could have predicted their great success. 25 bottles of Pays d’Oc IGP wines are sold every second around the world. The success stems from the quality revolution in Languedoc-Roussillon over thirty years. The reason for this is the emergence of a completely new category – Pays d’Oc IGP variety wines that consumers around the world have found easy to identify thanks to their clear indication of grape variety on wine bottle labels. From the beginning, the concept has been the center of the Pays d’Oc, which with about 120,000 hectares now covers half of the vineyards in the more than 240,000 hectare region Languedoc-Roussillon.

Your Living City was invited to try specially selected Pays d’Oc wines and we chose a few with outstanding tasting notes to recommend to you, wines that would go down perfectly during the autumn season due to their warmth and depth.

Fat Bastard Syrah, Maison Gabriel Meffre

An organic wine with soft tannins, juicy and enjoyable mild acidity, middle body. Fruity notes of cherry, blackberry and dried plums and a touch of oak and tobacco. Perfect to level up a mid-week dinner of beef, pasta, lamb or vegetable stew.

Fat Bastard Chardonnay, 2020 Maison Gabriel Meffre pays d'oc wines autumn

Fat Bastard Chardonnay, Maison Gabriel Meffre

Round and powerful in the mouth with white flower (acacia) and citrus aromas, long and fresh finish on toasted notes. On the nose – intense and complex with a touch of vanilla, toasty notes, oak and expressive fruit aromas. Pale gold colour with green tints. Perfectly paired with grilled pork or chicken, but actually I could just enjoy it on its own on a nice evening of conversation with a friend or a loved one.

A really nice and price worthy Pinot! Pair it with meaty dishes or pasta.

Puy Chéri Syrah Rosé pays d'oc

Puy Chéri Syrah Rosé

Perhaps a rosé is not immediately your go-to wine for autumn, but you if you want a bit of fresher air, you have to trust me on this one. Strawberry, peach with some really delightful grass, vetiver tones. This lovely, aromatic and fruity wine is so versatile that it would match everything from pasta and vegetarian dishes to appetizers and lean fish, or you could have it on its own.

Le Versant Syrah

Deep red colour with dark purple tints. The complex nose combines hints of red fruit, peony, white pepper and juniper berry flavours. Full and fresh on the palate, with aromas of citrus peel and liquorice, smooth tannins and a cocoa finish. We have to mention that it also includes some tropical fruit hints.
