Our January 2019 picks from Formex: I love pleats and faux botanics!

Formex has been revisited many times in our blog but we don’t get enough of it!

This year I had the chance to visit the fair and clearly each exhibitor is worth a line here as they all come with a story to tell and a personal approach. A comprehensive list of all exhibitors is available on the Formex website where you can also find all the practical details you need to make it to the fair.

I personally enjoyed the short ride to Älvsjö in the snow using the commuter train and once there, the layers of colours and the minimalist structure of the stage made me feel I could spend hours wandering around all the beautifully designed stalls. It is also interesting to see the big names of Scandinavian designers alongside new small niche entrants to the game.

As a scarf collector and scarf exhibition curator, the focus of my article, is going to be on the Formex Formidable 2018 winner, Susanne Beskow, designer and owner of the Swedish brand Van Deurs .

Susanne was nominated by Formex under the theme “Recycled textiles – old shawls – undergo a transformation. Handicraft and exquisite fashion in a unique collection by a designer with a passion for pleats.” And this is frankly why we can’t agree more with the choice of the jury. How fascinating  is it to take beautiful vintage fabrics and give them another life ! It is also in line with sustainable fashion which we can only encourage.

Here are some photos from her work exhibited at Formex – if you are a textile lover or a vintage aficionado, you should definitely visit Susanne at Hall B04:42.

One can’t go to the fair this year without paying a visit to the mind-blowing stall of Abigal Ahern, one of UK top design influencer and the pioneer in faux flowers and dark palettes. Make sure you have a look at Hall A01:10 and admire the show all the way from London.

For all the expats out there , people visiting Stockholm this week, the exhibition is free of charge if you have your business abroad, otherwise tickets are 300Kronor.

 Enjoy !
