The Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair is an event we cannot just let pass without mentioning. There’s something for you here whether you are into interior design, architecture or if you are just plain curious! Your Living City was invited to have a look around at the fair’s exhibitions and the interior design novelties of 2019 and we encountered many happy surprises from many innovative designers. Just to mention one of the brands we loved: the Japanese designer Kengo Kuma, who of course brings the inspiration from Japanese traditions and lifestyle when designing their furniture.

We also saw jot.jot, a Lithuanian company with many original designs that are not necessarily that Scandinavian in style, but we could perfectly see them in homes here in Sweden.

Another great brand that caught our attention was form2 with a very futuristic design that could definitely be a match for people who like to dress their homes in a very unique and fun taste!

Also as part of the fair some guest design studios have created installations that showcase their architectural talents and highlight art and culture. Among these, located at the entrance of Stockholmsmässan, you’ll find, The Unfolding Village by Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair’s guest of honor Neri&Hu, a Chinese award winning design and architecture bureau. They brought to life a representation of a Chinese village using 6km of black wood, which was folded like an accordion. The villages are a big part of the Chinese culture which are right now in jeopardy. Many villages are vanishing due to mass migration into the big cities. The Unfolding Village portrays this important aspect of their culture where the public and the private is blurred and you can see and hear the neighbours gossiping on the other side of the wall, it also presents objects from 20 brands and quotes from Chinese poetry.

Andersen & Voll, a Norwegian design studio has created The Design Bar fot this year’s Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair. In it you will find a mix of exhibitions and a top class restaurant, taking inspiration from the aesthetics of Scandinavian atriums and Japanese courtyards. It’s intended to be a place that serves as a calm oasis in the middle of the fair, a safe, comfortable, warm and intimate shelter where you can step out of the wheel and take it easy, something they meant to achieve also by the materials used in its construction as well as the presence of some live pine trees. At the Design Bar you can grab a drink and try the menu created by Frida Ronge, award-winning chef and culinary director at Tak. Her menu is only available at the fair and uses Scandinavian ingredients cooked in the Japanese style and technique.

So now you know what you could do this weekend for fun, visit Stockholm Furniture and Light Fair at Stockholmsmässan!

And here are the pictures of the latest trends in Scandinavian home interiors.
