What Not to Miss: May

It’s May and it’s (relatively) warm outside and Stockholmers are hitting the streets for all sorts of reasons. There’s fun and sun everywhere you look – but we know a few highlights you truly won’t want to miss!

Anzac Cup at Täby Galopp

This is your chance to celebrate last week’s Anzac Day at Täby Galopp in Stockholm, with nine televised races, outdoor bar with The Wooley Jumpers, Big BBQ buffet, children’s activities, pony rides, poppy sales and much more! Frock up and check it out! Lest we forget!

When: Sunday May 4th, from midday
Damage: Entrance 50 SEK or you could splash out on the Anzac Cup Gate Package for 250 SEK, which includes entrance, race card (worth 30 SEK), and BBQ buffet (220 SEK).
Note: Limited ATM facilities – use cash when possible!

Stockholm Lobster Dinner

This one’s sort of an oddball, but a fun one. Creep on down to Göta Källare, located in the Medborgarplatsen metro station, for a luxurious lobster dinner. The food will be accompanied by dance performances from around the world, a fashion show, and a cooking competition. It’s a heavenly hodgepodge sure to set you in the spring mood!

AntWalk Fashion Show

The AntWalk returns! This funky, fabulous show presents a fusion of fashion and sustainability. The event is an alternative and environmentally-friendly fashion show featuring only used clothing. This time around they’ve given a few of the pieces make-overs in special reusable-fashion workshops. All of the models are volunteers with attitudes – and that includes the dogs.

When: Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4 at 18:00

Streetstar Streetdance Festival

For the ninth year in a row streetdance takes over Stockholm in Scandinavia’s largest streetdance event. As if that weren’t enough, it takes place on the beautiful island of Djurgården. Whether you want to learn a new dance, polish your technique, perform or just see some great dance, Streetstar is sure to put on the moves.

When: Friday, May 9 through Sunday, May 11

Sugar Hill Stockholm

Sugar Hill eludes definition. Vintage club? 1930s masquerade? Retro market? Swing dance festival? Posh party? How about all of the above? Anything from the 20s to the 50s goes, and there will be entertainment and parties and plenty of dancing. It all goes down at the decadent old theater on Södermalm, Södra Teatern.

When: Friday, May 9 through Sunday, May 11

Revolution Poetry

Revolution Poetry at Orion Theater promises to take you on an emotional journey with the help of the spoken word. The show is one night only, presenting various types of powerful poetry touching serious issues which won’t leave you untouched. Grab your tickets here.

Musicians Against Racism

Musicians Against Racism, or Musiker Mot Rasism, is not just a show but a movement spreading across Sweden. It went from a hashtag to an Instagram account to a concert. On May 24 the powerful event comes to Stockholm. Artists CLEO, Räfven, and Kolonien will be on stage, along with others yet to be announced. Stay tuned!

Riverdance

In the mood for a jig? Now celebrating its 20th Anniversay, the famous and fabulous Riverdance is returning to Sweden.  The show will be at Cirkus for a few days only, and of course you can order a special supper to accompany the show. Tickets go fast, so don’t miss your chance to see the worldwide sensation.

When: May 27 – 30, 19:30
