“Women in Horror Month (WiHM) is an international, grassroots initiative, which encourages supporters to learn about and showcase the underrepresented work of women in the horror industries. Whether they are on the screen, behind the scenes, or contributing in their other various artistic ways, it is clear that women love, appreciate, and contribute to the horror genre.

WiHM celebrates these contributions to horror throughout the year via the official WiHM blog, Ax Wound, The Ax Wound Film Festival, and with the official WiHM event/project database in February. This database (http://womeninhorrormonth.com/events)—in conjunction with the WiHM social media fan base— actively promotes do-it-yourself annual film screenings, blogs/articles, podcasts, and any other form of creative media with the ultimate goal of helping works by and featuring women reach a wider audience.

This inclusive and positive movement is open to everyone, just as we believe the horror genre should be.

Fur Hats, car crashes and cartridge cases in the Tempo Documentary Festival program

The program for the 18th edition of Tempo Documentary Festival has been released in its entirety on February 8 at. Many of the films will premiere in Sweden, including Dream Empire by David Borenstein, The Man Who Saw Too Much by Trisha Ziff and The Land of the Enlightened by Pieter-Jan De Puec. These directors are some of the international guests. Hot radio documentaries Sound Sauna in Finland Institute, photo exhibition, talks and a record number of seminars and more are also part of the festival.

As the main theme of this year’s festival is the (un) truth, gives room for a wide range of documentary storytelling – everything from classic portraits movies to grand tableaux and hybrids are represented.

This year’s poster image is from the documentary Dream Empire by David Borenstein. The film’s main character is 24-year-old Yana, who runs a business in order to attract people to move to newly built cities in China, cities with huge complex of skyscrapers and shopping malls. To make the apartments more attractive to domestic potential buyers, she hires people born outside China to participate in the sale. But what is true, what is actually untrue in their performances – and does it really matter?

Welcome to an exciting evening exploring the world of Burning Man and how the Burning Man movement is has become a hotbed for digital innovation.

“A playground for Innovation” strives to make the connection between Burning Man and startup culture. On Monday, you will get to meet the long time “burner” and initiator of the Burning Man Week, Gustaf Josefsson, along with Ola Ahlvarsson, long time entrepreneur who just found his way to Burning Man.
On March 1-7, the Burning Man Week Stockholm happens in town, with 200 leaders from the Burning Man community visiting Stockholm. This is an attemt to bring together the burners and the startup people of Stockholm, under one roof.

The evening will celebrate the 10 principles of Burning Man, the values on which the event is built. The evening, the bar and the knowledge is a gift. What they ask from you is to bring your own gift to the community: Some candy? An amazing outfit? A piece of art? A lovely hug, or maybe a good advice of a book they should read? What would you like to share?

Burning Man, a participatory festival with 70 000 people in the Northern Nevada desert, have long been the secret creative backyard of Silicon Valley. It is a temporary city, completely built by the participants, on their own initiative, an experimental playground for art, technology, design and community.
Many of the big name startup founders spend their Labor Day weekends there, and some even send their employees out to the event to prototype new technologies and explore new ways of collaboration.

If Stockholm strives to be the “Silicon Valley of Europe”, isn’t it time we get our own Burning Man?

    Where: Epicenter Stockholm
When: 17.30-20.00 or whenever you like.
    Welcome Home!

The event is a part of Burning Man Week Stockholm, 7 days of Burning Man-related events all around the city. March 1-7. Check out the full schedule here: http://www.burningmanweekstockholm.se/

City and Society – Learnings from the Burning Man Culture

What if there is an idea that has been implemented in San Francisco that could be used on an empty space in Stockholm? What if your organization can learn something from an organization that with almost no central planning organizes 70 000 co-creators in the desert?

You are not invited to sit and listen to a lecture. You are invited to co-create. Therefore, they will send out a playlist of podcasts, talks and documentaries of various interesting projects related to urban development and the Burning Man culture around the world.
You will then be introduced to 10 different spaces around Stockholm that are facing some kind of challenge.

They will invite politicians, Burning Man leaders from around the world, real-estate companies and local community leaders as well as designers and sketch-artists from the local Burning Man community.

Flashmob at the central station in Stockholm 8th March at 17:00!

    #ICANTKEEPQUIET

It began January 21 this year during the International Women’s March. The American artist MILCK put together a choir who performed her song “Quiet” on the streets of Washington. Since then flashmobs appeared in cities around the world and sung out his response to those who want to be intimidated into silence. In this strange time of the dismantling of the open society and the closed borders between countries and people, are women and LGBTQ people’s life, rights and freedom under threat of being turned back. So if there is any time that it is important to take tons – it is now! Then it is not only our democratic right to protest. It is our democratic responsibility. What started as MILCKs own “one-woman riot” is two months later, thousands of people rebelling against silence.

The 8th March International Women’s Day is our turn!
At 17 o’clock we gather to flashmob at central station in Stockholm and singing “Quiet”.

Band of Horses During his more than twelve years of existence have moved quickly from being a small indie affair to embrace a large group of dedicated listeners who passionately sing along to “No One’s Gonna Love You”. The first sign of their impact came in the first album with “The Funeral”, which was heard in a plethora of melodramatic soundtracks to all sorts of television series. After this, they placed their food on the accelerator and shot high into the sky. Albums like “Infinite Arms” and “Mirage Rock” are impressive residues, Bridwell and Co. can rest against.

Among this year’s performers we find Malian superstar Rokia Traoré, ending the festival at the Stockholm Concert Hall on 12 March. In addition, among other things, the festival will be visited by the acclaimed South African house-trio Batuk and Latin-jazz legend Calixto Oviedo.

    – It feels great to be able to present so many different types of acts and genres in Stockholm for several days. The festival’s vision is to highlight music and audiences who rarely takes part of Stockholm’s cultural institutions and I am very proud of this year’s festival program shows that Stockholm can be a global world-class venue, says Selam Director Teshome Wondimu

The venues are: Konserthus, Fasching, Kulturhuset, Södra bar and Dieselverkstaden bibliotek.

“We have just finished our 4th full-length album, Running out of Love. An album about life in Sweden in 2016 and how our society seems to be in regression on so many levels. Politically, intellectually, morally… It’s an album about all the things that are moving in the wrong direction. It’s about the impatience that turns into anger, hate and ultimately withdrawal and apathy when love for the world and our existence begins to falter.

For the third time in a row we have made two albums instead of one. After constant touring for a couple of years after our latest release, Clinging to a Scheme, we started writing and recording an album that we later decided to scrap. As some of you might be aware, we have been caught up in a lengthy legal battle with our record label and publisher. We took a pause from releasing singles and EP’s and instead spent our time hanging out with friends, working odd jobs and just loafing around. Ultimately we lost the court case but still managed to reach an agreement with the record company that gave us the motivation to create music again.

In the summer of 2014, ideas and a concept for Running out of Love started to come together and the single Death to Fascism, now too old to be included, was the first effort towards the new album. Later, more new songs started to appear. The court case is taken care of in Occupied, the Swedish weapon and arms industry in Swedish Guns and We got Game is about the proud police tradition of protecting nazis and racists, whilst at the same time using brutal violence against opposing groups of protesters.

Running out of Love has moulded itself into a rather dystopian album, mainly because it was created in a sense of deep frustration over the reactionary currents which characterize our time.”
